Šiauliai County Povilas Višinskis Public Library organizes an international scientific-practical conference "PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN SOCIETY, FAMILY AND LIBRARY". The purpose of the conference is to promote a research on disability issues, their dissemination and practical application, to actualize the existing situation of socialization and integration of people with disabilities. The conference also aims to develop a dialogue between different sectors and institutions (government representatives, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, family related associations, libraries, etc.) in order to ensure access to information and the variety of services for the disabled. The conference will give all participants the opportunity to discuss the current awareness on how to create open and equitable environment for individuals with different needs and backgrounds.
Suggested topics for the conference:
The concept of disability. Disease, disability, impairment and other concepts: social, educational, psychological and other definitions. Change of disability concept. Types of disability. Problems of the research of disability and its practical application. 
A disabled person in society: roles, stereotypes, attitudes, tolerance/intolerance, socialization and integration, needs. The rights of disabled people, National social integration program for people with disabilities 2013-2019, information for society in order to change the attitude of the disabled person.
A disabled person in family: encountered problems by families raising (nursing) a disabled person; disability as a challenge, quality of life in such families. Public and institutional help for families with a disabled person.
A disabled person in library: ways to improve library services and resources; the development and application of hardware and software; staff training and availability to work with disabled users; review of the existing library experiences.

Conference languages: Lithuanian, English (presentations will be simultaneously interpreted).
